Hometown: East St. Louis, Illinois

Hobby: Riding Horses

Began Playing Music : Age 13

Instruments Played: Trumpet

Band Name: The Miles Davis Nonet

In High School, Miles Davis classically studied the trumpet and musical

theory. At age 17, Miles played his first paid "gig" in St. Louis, Missouri.

It was there that he heard the musical style of bebop, played by

Jazz legend Charlie Parker. Miles wanted to play this unpredictable,

complex type of music. So he, like Louis Armstrong, moved to New

York City. Miles briefly attended the Julliard School of Music, but

dropped out after one semester. He eventually developed his own style of

Jazz and played with his nine-piece band, the Miles Davis Nonet.
