In 1920, America was disheartened after World War I. In search of

better opportunities, African Americans moved across the country to

cities, such as New York city and Chicago. Young Americans

challenged the old ways by listening and dancing to Jazz. Young

women, called "Flappers" wore short dresses and cut their hair

short. America was in a time of economic growth and wealth.

People could now afford radios and record players and began

listening to jazz at home and in dance halls.
