While men and women were struggling to find jobs and feed their

families, Jazz played on the radio at night. In this time of financial

struggle, people could not afford to buy records. Americans listened

and danced to a new form of Jazz called "Big Band Swing."

Many unemployed Jazz musicians moved to Kansas City.

Kansas City's night life was filled with gambling, saloons,

illegal drugs and alcohol.
