Nearly a million African Americans served overseas during World War II.

Many Jazz musicians were drafted to fight the war. At home, Jazz

musicians continued to face racial discrimination and were often

overlooked by record companies. At war, African Americans faced

racial discrimination as well. White and black soldiers were

segregated. Because of this racial conflict at home and at war,

many African Americans supported the "Double V" campaign,

meaning fighting for victory overseas and at home.
